A postal league involves archers shooting one score for every month of the league. The club scores are then collated and submitted to the county by Ev, our club postal officer, at the end of each month. Details of how to send Ev your scores can be found below.
This summer we’re participating in the Sussex Summer League.
You will be able to take part in the league by shooting at the club shoots Sam is organising for us.
What round do I need to shoot?
The round you shoot will depend on your age, bowstyle and experience level.
Age categories are calculated as on 31st December 2026. (E.g. If you are currently 17 but will turn 18 on or before 31st December 2026 you should be submitting your scores in the Senior category).
Senior (18+)
Senior archers will shoot a WA720 round of 6 dozen arrows (plus 6 arrows of sighters).
This is basically an umbrella name for several different distances: 70m, 60m, 50m. The 60m variant is not being used in the Postal league.
Sighters are only allowed at the beginning of the first round shot.
Distance and size of target face are then determined by experience level and bowstyle.
(On a competition it would be determined by the bowstyle and the age group of a person)

Junior (<18)
Junior archers will shoot 3 dozen arrows (plus up to 2 ends of signters) on a 122cm target face. Distance is then determined by your experience and age group.
Both the distances and scoring are Imperial.
Note, this is effectively allowing archers to work on their 252 Scheme badges (When you reach 252 on a certain distance, you can claim a badge for it – we’ll keep track and hand out badges for your best 252 when the outdoor season has ended)

Note: Gender categories
When sending in your score you will need to specify a gender category that you want to submit in (Open or Women); gender category will not impact the round you shoot, only who you will be competing against.
- Open is, as the name suggests, open to people of any gender.
- Submission in the women’s category is based on sex assigned at birth rather than gender identity, this grouping is based on AGB guidance.
How does scoring work?
| Senior archers will use metric scoring. Junior archers will use imperial scoring. |
- Scores must be properly recorded – no archer may record their own score.
If you want County Records eligibility, the scorer cannot be your close relative either. - Score sheets must be signed by the scorer to confirm that they recorded the scores.
- Scores submitted must have been shot in the month you are submitting for (e.g. a round shot on the 30th June can only be submitted as a score for June and cannot be rolled over to July).
