Club Etiquette

1. Brighton Bowmen is a inclusive club where everyone is welcome. These rules are intended to provide a safe, respectful and enjoyable environment for all members.  
2. We are all here to shoot, that’s every member’s primary focus. 
3. We always observe safety protocols on and around the range. 
4. We follow AGB Rules of Shooting, and we always use the appropriate commands (good to shoot, go collect, hold fast), or whistle signals. 
5. On the shooting line we do not talk loudly, chat, or disturb other archers. 
6. We record scores and collect arrows as quickly as possible, as lingering unnecessarily on the range delays other archers. 
7. Every member is a helper within the remit of set up/take down of the range, the running of courses and competitions at the club, and making sure new members are welcomed and supported.
8. Coaching needs to be by arrangement with a coach of your choice. Coaches are archers too (see rule 2). You can request coaching here. 
9. We have a culture of sharing knowledge and expertise with each other by mutual  consent. No one is ever compelled to give or receive advice.
10. Brighton Bowmen has a culture of “speaking up safely”. If you have a concern about another member’s behaviour in relation to these rules, and you don’t feel confident to address it with them yourself, please contact the Welfare and Safeguarding Officer. 

Safeguarding policy

Brighton Bowmen is committed to providing  a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for all members. 

Brighton Bowmen has adopted the AGB Safeguarding Policy, and adheres to all AGB’s associated policies, which you can find here 

Archers under the age of 18 and vulnerable adults are strictly required to have to have a responsible adult in attendance at all times. This is for safeguarding and insurance purposes, and to meet the AGB Rules of Shooting.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and you are encouraged to report your concerns whether a reportable incident has taken place or not. It’s just as important to address potential issues as it is to address actual issues and incidents.

Photo & Video Consent

By attending our events or using our services, you grant Brighton Bowmen permission to capture and use your photograph, video, or voice recording.

We use media for promotion, which may include

• Website and email updates.
• Social media posts.
• Marketing brochures and advertisements.

You can withdraw consent at any time, and will be given the opportunity to opt out at the point of signing up to courses and competitions. Before and during events you can speak to the photographer or event staff if you do not wish  to be published. For already published media, contact our Secretary to request the removal of an image featuring your likeness.

 Data Sharing

We will never sell your personal information. We may share data only with:

• Governing bodies such as Archery GB and Sussex County Archery Association for membership and insurance purposes
• Event organisers for competition registration
• Emergency services in urgent situations

Data Storage and Security

Your personal data is securely stored and accessed only by authorised committee members. We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse.

Data Retention

We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected and to comply with any legal requirements. Data will typically be deleted one year after a course, competition or after a membership expires without a renewal occurring.
