As we come to the end of our outdoor season, we would like to share our winter season arrangements and highlight the changes as we move indoors.
πΉ Winter Season
Our indoor season runs from October through to the end of March, with shooting taking place inside the Longhill Sports Centre.
πLocation
We will be shooting in the school gym at Longhill Sports Centre, Falmer Road, Rottingdean, BN2 7FR. Unless otherwise told, we will continue to use the smaller hall – up the stairs to the right of reception. Please ask the WhatsApp group if you are unsure where to go.
π Shooting Times
Note the updated hours this year! Our winter shooting sessions are:
- Saturday: 9:00am β 5:00pm
- Sunday Quiet Session: 9:00am – 11:00amΒ
- Sunday: 11:00am β 5:00pm
Reminders:
- The bosses and net can be left up on Saturdays but must be packed away on Sunday afternoon.
- A minimum of two people are required to safely move the bosses in and out of storage.
- Keys must be returned to Longhill Sports Centre reception by 4:50pm.
- Everyone must be off site by the required closing time.
Please continue to use the Club Days WhatsApp group to coordinate arrivals and departures. This is particularly important during the winter as we will need to coordinate space on the shooting line.
πΉ Equipment & Storage
Our indoor equipment is stored in the storage room accessed via the menβs changing room.
If you are not comfortable entering or passing through the changing room, please do not feel that you need to do so. Ask another member for assistance and we can arrange for someone else to collect or return the equipment.
Please use the Club Days WhatsApp group to coordinate setup and pack-down so we have enough people available to help.
π― Setting Up the Indoor Range
The range must be correctly set up before shooting begins, including all required safety equipment, the net and signage.
If you haven’t helped set up the indoor range before, please don’t worry β ask an experienced member to show you what needs to be done.
π Range Safety & Commands
The usual range safety rules and commands continue to apply indoors.
Please make sure you understand the range commands and follow the instructions of the Field Captain or person in charge of the session at all times.
If you’re ever unsure whether it is safe to shoot or collect arrows, always ask before proceeding.
π Coming Prepared
Although we’re indoors, please remember that archery is still a physical activity. We recommend:
- Comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely
- Suitable enclosed footwear
- Water or other drinks to stay hydrated
- Layers, as the temperature in the gym can vary
- Something to tie back long hair
- No loose clothing or dangling jewellery that could catch on the bowstring
π New Members & Beginners
There will be no dedicated indoor beginners’ courses this winter, however we do have plans to run booster couses on select days – more information to come.
Our club equipment is available for new members to use while they become familiar with the sport and decide what equipment is suitable for them. Please don’t feel that you need to rush out and buy your own equipment.
π± Communication
As with the summer season, please continue to use the Club Days WhatsApp group for session logistics, including:
- Coordinating arrivals and departures
- Setting up and packing away
- Session updates
- Organised shoots
- Coaching sessions
- General club information
If you’re unsure about anything, please ask in the WhatsApp group or contact us via e-mail.
Thank you to everyone who has helped with setting up, packing away and running the outdoor sessions this year. We really appreciate everyone’s help in keeping the club running safely.
We look forward to seeing you all indoors for the winter season!
